cyborg narcissus

Above; Installation view of Cyborg Narcissus demonstrating feed delay effect.

Cyborg Narcissus publicizes the private act of taking a selfie. The participant sees their reflection in a mirrored surface of the mock smartphone and is subjequently able to see themself in a state of self-examination, projected at a delay. Moreover, others within the space can observe the participant’s relationship to their self-image.

The installation was created from a wax cast of the artist’s arm, mirrored arcylic laser cut to an iPhone’s shape and proportions, a webcam with a feed delay created using Max MSP, and a projector.
